Community Learning Term 1 2019

What is Community Learning?

The purpose of these activities is to get you out and about in your local community because this will give you opportunity to practice important life skills. Part of the point of school is that we help you prepare for being adults who can live independently and successfully.

What have I got to do?

There are six tasks in this booklet, each is intended to be done once a week so that we build up your experience of your community over time. Avoid doing them all in one go, if you can! For each task, there is a space for you to include evidence of the task and your views about how it went. Each section needs to be completed for every task. You must also write something for each task in the ‘what went well’ and ‘what would you do differently’ boxes.

What evidence can I include?

You can use any of the following but you must use at least three different types of evidence:

  • Pictures or video – these can be emailed into your class teacher by the deadline but you need to write the title of the picture into the evidence space.
  • Witness Statements – An adult can write a couple of sentences to say what you did and when but they need to have been with you when you did it.
  • Items you’ve collected – if you have visited somewhere and picked up information or a leaflet, in fact anything that shows you’ve been to this place, this can be included. Write the details of the items in the evidence box.
  • Task Details – a task might ask you to do something, this can be done in the evidence box to show that you have completed the task.

What is the point?

Over the time you are with us, you will work towards several different qualifications and your community learning evidence will contribute to achieving these. Life Skills and the qualifications you achieve with us will enable you to move onto the next stage of your education or employment with evidence of your skills and abilities.

What do I get?
